This week: South Africa and Spain
Mulderbosch Sauvignon Blanc is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes, grown in the Stellenbosch region on the central coast of South Africa, an area famous for some of the finest vineyards in the world. This clean and fresh wine is fuller and richer than many other Sauvignon Blancs and offers elderflower aromas, followed by tastes of fresh green figs and zesty grapefruit. Fish, shellfish and white meats (like turkey!) make perfect food companions, and it is a delicious sipper all by itself!
Now try a sip of red wine from Murcia, a small southeastern region in Spain, on the Mediterranean coast, with wide valleys below a central plateau. Wines from here are named after the municipality of Jumilla, and the most widely grown grape varietal is Monastrell. Wines made from this grape age well and develop complex aromas of mature fruit with coffee and oak spices. Honoro Vera Monastrell is a delicious example of this organic, medium bodied wine with great intensity – wonderful by itself, with grilled or roasted red or white meats, sausages, grilled vegetables and medium sharp cheeses…and of course, turkey!
